Admissions Policy
The following types of entrance exams are available for Master and Doctoral Programs (Graduate School of Modern Economics and Business) and Accounting School.

Graduate School of Modern Economics and Business

Master’s Program

【Attention】Applicants who wish to apply to the January exam of master’s program of Hokkaido University graduate school of Economics and Business (Enrollment for April 2022), need to obtain an advance consent from the prospective supervisor before filing an application.

【Steps to obtain advance consent to official application】

1.Choose your expected supervisor

Please choose your prospective supervisor from “List of faculty members in graduate school of Economics and Business (Prospective list in 2022)”.
For the information of the research fields of each professors, please refer to Faculty information of our graduate school or Researchers List of HU.

2.Apply to the advance consent

To obtain an advance consent, please do not contact to the supervisor directly, but follow the procedures below.The submission after the deadline will not be accepted.

○Period of application for an advance consent:

 October 18th (Mon.) ~ October 27th (Wed.)【strict deadline】

○Where to submit:

Student Affairs Office, Faculty of Economics and Business, Hokkaido Univerisity

○Submission materials:

Application sheet Word※essential
②Please paste the scanned data of the certificate of (expected)graduation and transcript in the designated area.
(If you can’t submit these certificates within the period of advance consent application, please mention it on the application sheet)
③If you have any certificates of language (English and/or Japanese) proficiency,please paste the scanned data of the certificate in the designated area.
If you can’t submit these certificates within the period of advance consent application,please mention it on the application sheet)

○How to submit:

After you finish preparing all the necessary contents, please convert them to a PDF file and change the name of the file to your NAME(e.g., HOKUDAI TARO.pdf).
Then send the PDF file to ecokyomu5(at)econ.hokudai.ac.jp by email attachment.
Please set the email title to “Advance consent application for graduate school admission(Your name)”
You are allowed to apply up to twice. When you apply again, please follow the instruction above from the beginning.

【Attension】You can apply only one time, and you can choose only two supervisors to apply.

Please note that once you get the result of the advance consent application, you can’t reapply.

○When to get the result:

The result of the advance consent application will be notified on November 22nd(Mon.)

3.Official Application for the entrance exam

Only for those who have obtained the advance consent can proceed to the online application for the entrance exam.

【Attention】Even if you obtained the advance consent, you will not be able to take the entrance exam in case you won’t complete the official application in the application period, or the application documents are incomplete.

Preliminary Review of Application Qualifications

We are open to persons with various background, including those who have not graduated (are not expected to graduate) from 4-year universities. The following persons may be admitted to take entrance exams. We kindly ask those persons to apply for “Preliminary Review for Eligibility for Application (applicant screening and interviews if necessary).”

  • Graduates from 2-year college, colleges of technology (kosen), and other kinds of schools.
  • Those not having bachelor degree, such as graduates from Japanese branches of foreign universities.
  • Those completing (or expected to complete)16 years of education in foreign education systems, including correspondence schools.
  • Those in 3rd grade in universities completing the prescribed amount of credits with excellent grades.
  • Those the Graduate School of Economics and Business admits to have at least the same level of fundamental knowledge as the graduates from universities.
